4 Bible Verses to Read When You're Feeling Lonely

It’s normal to feel lonely at times, especially if you’re single and looking for a relationship. But sometimes, loneliness can be so overwhelming that it feels like you can’t cope. If you can relate, here are four Bible verses to read when you’re feeling lonely to encourage and strengthen you.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

When you’re feeling lonely, it is easy to think you are all alone, especially when you’re still waiting for “the one.” But this Bible verse about loneliness reminds you that you are actually never alone. God is always with you. And not only that, but He is helping you and strengthening you during your loneliness so that you’ll come out stronger than before.

“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.”

Can you relate to David’s feelings and plea? When you’re going through a tough time, it can be reassuring to know you’re not the only one. In the Bible, David experienced a lot of lonely times, but one thing was evident: God always showed up and came through for him–and God will do the same for you. So, while you may join in David’s prayer right now, asking for relief from your loneliness, you can also trust that you’ll share in his praise that comes just a few chapters later in Psalm 28:6-7: “Praise be to the Lord for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

Sometimes loneliness results from isolation, and it’s common to isolate when you’re feeling sad, anxious, or hopeless. If that’s the case, let this scripture encourage you to turn your thoughts toward those around you. Rather than waiting for meaningful connections to show up at your doorstep, go out and pursue relationships, whether with your friends, family, or community.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

If it’s a broken heart that has you seeking Bible verses to read when you’re feeling lonely, God will help you and heal your brokenness. Unfortunately, in your search to find the person you want to be with forever, you’ll likely experience some heartbreak. And until that person comes into your life, you’ll experience some loneliness. But God is faithful to comfort you and provide relief from your pain when you seek Him.

These four Bible verses to read when you’re feeling lonely remind you that God is always with you. The more you lean into Him in your loneliness, the less alone you’ll feel. Not only that, but He will strengthen and heal you so that you’re ready to pursue healthy, meaningful relationships with the time comes.
