Molly & Jakob

In January 2023 we were both over dating apps and having too many first dates and no second dates. Jakob and I matched right before I deleted my profile. He sent a cheesy pickup line and it caught my attention. January 14th, he drove an hour to pick me up for our first date. As we got to know each other that night, I saw something in him I had not seen before. Being hurt in the past, I had my walls up - even he said later on that he felt like he was in a job interview at some points. On the drive back to my parents house, we had an open and honest conversation about our past, where we were then, and what we wanted for the future. Sharing our hopes and shortcomings so openly set the tone for our relationship. After he dropped me off, I had a peace come over me. I knew that night that he was in my life for a reason. After mid-distance dating, many 3-mile walks around our favorite park, and myself getting my own place closer to him, we were engaged on December 1, 2023 and married July 21, 2024. I owe part of it to making him “Marry Me” Chicken every so often. Thanks to Upward, we found each other. We are best friends, and partners, and building a life together one step at a time. When we were both about to give up on dating, we found each other so unexpectedly. Keeping God and honesty at the forefront, we have tackled so many challenges together. Life is full of laughter and comfort, even in the hard times. We often cherish the fact that for us, the ‘honeymoon stage’ hasn’t left us, and we plan to keep it this way for as long as possible. Always guard your heart when entering a relationship, but remember, there will always be a time for vulnerability. Own your past, keep working in the present, and be open God’s wonderful future.
